Manhajul Islam, S. Ak - BATS Consulting
KAP Abdul Hamid and
Partners, in collaboration with BATS Consulting, successfully organized the
"Exclusive Training: Enhancing Creativity, Accountability, and
Sustainability of Public Service Agency (BLU) Business Units in Education"
from November 21 to 23, 2024, at Hotel Mercure Bandung City Centre. This
training not only provided fresh insights to over 18 educational BLU
institutions but also pioneered the integration of sustainability principles by
making it a Carbon Neutral Event.
Focusing on financial
management, innovation, and sustainability, the training featured experienced
speakers addressing strategic issues in the education sector. Additionally, the
effort to ensure the event was carbon-neutral highlighted the organizers commitment
to a greener and more sustainable future.
Carbon Neutral: Carbon
Footprint Calculation with the GHG Protocol
The event’s carbon
footprint was calculated using the GHG Protocol, a globally recognized standard
for measuring and managing greenhouse gas emissions. This calculation included
emissions from various operational aspects, such as participant transportation,
energy consumption during the event, and hotel facility operations.
To ensure the event’s
carbon neutrality, all emissions were offset using Greenhouse Gas Emission
Reduction Certificates (SPE-GRK) with serial number SPE-11-PR-V-2023-10867
(36974 to 36997). These certificates were sourced from the development of the
natural gas-powered PLTGU Block 3 PJB Muara Karang power plant project, a clean
energy initiative significantly contributing to carbon reduction in Indonesia.
This step demonstrates the
organizers’ dedication to balancing human activities with environmental
preservation. By utilizing the SPE-GRK certificates, the event successfully
ensured that its activities left no negative carbon footprint.
Sustainability in Education
and BLU Business Units
Sustainability was not just
a theme for this training but also a core value embedded in every aspect of its
organization. During his opening remarks, Brian Pramudita, CEO of BATS
Consulting, emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability principles
into the management of BLU business units.
"This training is not
just about enhancing participants competencies in business management but also
about setting a real example of how sustainability can be implemented. By
making this event a Carbon Neutral Event, we show that sustainability practices
are not only a moral responsibility but also an innovative and relevant
business strategy," stated Brian.
In addition to promoting
sustainability, the training provided in-depth materials on BLU business
management, including Financial Leadership, Business Feasibility
Studies, and Taxation Aspects of BLU Business Units. Expert speakers
from diverse backgrounds guided participants through the essential aspects of
managing educational BLU units.
Furthermore, the business
innovation session, led by Dr. Indrawan Nugroho of CIAS (Corporate
Innovation Asia), inspired participants to become leaders who can create added
value within their institutions. This session highlighted the importance of
creativity in navigating the dynamic and complex operational challenges of BLU
units.
Inspiration and Future
Steps
The event received high
praise from participants, who acknowledged that the training provided new
insights into managing business units while showcasing tangible sustainability
practices.
The decision to make this
event a Carbon Neutral Event is expected to inspire more institutions and event
organizers to follow suit. The commitment of KAP Abdul Hamid and Partners,
together with BATS Consulting, to integrating innovation and sustainability
makes this training not only a platform for competency development but also a
momentum for driving positive change in the education sector.
With the success of this
event, both organizers reaffirmed their dedication to supporting BLU
institutions in managing business units that are creative, accountable, and
sustainable. This initiative underscores that a greener future is not just a
vision but a reality achievable through concrete actions.
