Recorded Carbon Emission Reduction of 480 Kilo Ton CO2, PHE Exceeds Target!

As of July 2023, PT Pertamina (Persero)s Upstream Subholding PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) noted that it has reduced carbon emissions by 480 kilo tons of CO2 or equivalent to 110 percent of the target set by the company.

PHE Development and Production Director Awang Lazuardi revealed that the company has 6 (six) decarbonization pillars, namely energy demand & efficiency, gas recovery & asset integrity, low carbon power, low carbon heat, CCUS / CCS and offsetting through natural based solutions.

"PHEs achievement is one proof of Pertamina Hulus commitment in implementing decarbonization along with the implementation of work programs to support national energy security." he said on Sunday (20/8/2023).

"Pertamina Upstream Subholding will be committed to supporting the government program to achieve the emission reduction target of 29% by 2039 and Net Zero Emission by 2060." he continued.

In addition to the inauguration of the CO2 injection trial at Pertamina EP Jatibarang Field in October 2022, several work programs to support decarbonization are also implemented in Pertaminas upstream subholding environment such as the use of renewable energy as fuel in a number of regions.

"Regional Sumatra has a project to optimize the use of flare gas for turbine fuel at 2 operating facilities and the construction of the WK Rokan phase 1 solar power plant in collaboration with Pertamina Power Indonesia," said Awang.

PHE also optimizes the operation of gas fuel which is carried out in stages every year and low carbon fuel switching through the use of B30 biodiesel as fuel for the marine fleet in Mahakam.

The existing decarbonization program is the first phase while laying the fundamentals for phases 2 and 3 regarding the implementation of CCS CCUS and Carbon Trading which are included in PHEs ESG strategy pillars.
