Success of the Blue Carbon Concept: 5,000 Mangrove Tree Seeds Planted in Central Bangka

On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, the Central Bangka Regency Government planted 5,000 mangrove tree seedlings at Menuang Beach, Namang District, Central Bangka, Bangka Belitung Islands. This planting was carried out in order to support the concept of blue carbon, which is an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by planting mangrove trees in coastal areas.

The blue carbon concept is one of the solutions to address the problem of climate change. Mangrove trees have the ability to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and store it in the soil. By planting mangrove trees, we can reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere and help prevent climate change.

Planting mangrove trees in Central Bangka is one of the efforts made by the local government to support the concept of blue carbon. In addition, this planting also aims to maintain coastal ecosystems and improve the communitys economy.

Mangrove ecosystems have an important role in protecting the coast from abrasion. Mangrove trees can withstand sea waves and prevent them from entering the mainland. This can protect settlements and infrastructure located on the coast from damage.

Mangrove planting can also improve the communitys economy. Communities can take advantage of mangrove forest products, such as wood, fruit, and charcoal. In addition, the community can also develop mangrove tourism, which can become a new source of income for them.

Planting mangrove trees in Central Bangka is a positive step in supporting the concept of blue carbon. By planting mangrove trees, we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect coastal ecosystems, and improve the communitys economy.

Here are some of the benefits of planting mangrove trees:

• Absorb carbon dioxide (CO2)

• Protecting the coastal ecosystem from abrasion

• Improving the communitys economy

• Become a habitat for various types of animals and plants

• Improving seawater quality

• Improve environmental aesthetics

Planting mangrove trees is one way we can do to protect the environment and reduce the impact of climate change. Lets together support the planting of mangrove trees throughout Indonesia!
