Receives OECD Delegation, President asks Indonesia to Speed Up Membership Process

(Jokowi) received a delegation from the Organization for Economic Cooperation
and Development (OECD) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta on Thursday (10/08/2023).
Minister of Finance of the
Republic of Indonesia, Sri Mulyani in her statement revealed that the OECD
appreciated President Jokowis leadership in carrying out reform measures in a
number of fields in strengthening the national economy amid global uncertainty.
During the meeting, Sri
Mulyani conveyed Indonesias desire to join the OECD and has officially applied
for membership.
The President hopes that
the membership process can run well and quickly. Moreover, Sri Mulyani said
that Indonesia has made a number of reforms to strengthen the Indonesian
economy which are in accordance with the requirements of OECD membership.
"So that when
Indonesia wants to become a member of the OECD, we do not start from scratch.
However, there are many areas of reform that have been carried out by Indonesia
which are also in accordance with the needs of a policy framework that is
consistent with the OECD," the Minister said.
On the same occasion,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi said that a meeting will be held in
the near future to discuss Indonesias membership plan in the OECD.
Retno also mentioned the
strong support from OECD member countries for Indonesias membership in the
OECD.
"In recent days I have
received letters from several foreign ministers expressing strong support for
Indonesias membership in the OECD," Retno said.
